Basic
- Skip the opening weekend. A weak opening will cause a movie to get either bad press or, worse, no press. Plus, you’ll save a buck if it turns out that the movie isn’t worth seeing.
- Wait as long as possible to see a movie. The money made on a DVD rental from Redbox, for example, is much less than that made at the theater.
Enthusiast
- Boycott all movies except independent productions.
- Boycott TV, including Hulu or other online sources, except those listed in the alternatives section.
Alternatives
- Netflix – It is not owned by any of the traditional media companies, and it offers a good value for streaming movies and TV.
- Archive.org – This free site has several classic movies worth watching.
- Redbox – This independent company offers DVD rentals at a bargain.
