Another protest is building steam. This time, its a boycott aimed directly at big media, called Black March. For the entire month of march, consumers are encouraged to not buy any media. Personally, I like the idea of this even better than the web blackout, as effective as it was. Sony, Disney, Fox, Paramount and the WB seem to think they are invulnerable because we, as consumers, have grown so dependent on them for our entertainment. Hopefully, a good participation level will show them exactly how wrong they are.
I propose that Black March be expanded. Don’t just boycott, go out and picket and protest in real life at the theaters, at DVD rental stores, and any other place you can think of.

I think you really want this to be “Don’t consume” rather than “Don’t buy”. Because if people rent, go out to the theatre, or, worst, file-share, to access this content without buying it, we are sending them a mixed message, we are still depending on their product.
If we treat it as if their product does not exist, that is a *VERY* clear message.
As someone who gave up movies and TV shows entirely back in July (no Netflix, no streaming, no broadcast or cable), I understand the anxiety about “how can I do this”, but the change was a wonderful thing.
Perhaps another way to approach it is to only consume independent media, but then that starts making the message harder to deliver to the masses. However, getting people to avoid content that supports the MPAA and RIAA would still be a wonderful thing.
I agree that the boycott should also have an exception for independent film and music, but it’s easier to spread of message of “Don’t buy any media” than “Don’t buy or download any media from RIAA or MPAA members and here’s the 1000 company list for you to check it against.”
Funny anonymous still insists on using their storebought Guy Fawkes masks – all those masks pay license fees to Time Warner, producers of the V for Vendetta movie.
Plus the fact that no one that uses the Guy Fawkes masks/imagery knows anything about the history of Guy Fawkes and how yes he was trying to overthrow the government – just to put into power a theocratic government.
hi??
